The African Regional Organisation of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC-Africa www.ituc-africa.org) joins our Namibian affiliates, workers, people of Namibia, and the rest of the world to mourn the passing of President Hage Geingob. We express our profound condolences for the passing of this great African son and pan-Africanist.

President Geingob was a towering figure in Namibia’s history. His political journey was one marked by resilience, dedication, and an unyielding commitment to the ideals of freedom and justice.

As a fervent Pan-Africanist, President Geingob spent significant years of his life as a freedom fighter in exile, contributing to thestruggle for the independence of Namibia. His return from exile marked a pivotal moment in the the nation’s history, and he went on to become its 3rd president, guiding the country through crucial periods of development and change.
President Geingob’s frank and unwavering approach to addressing issues garnered respect not only within Namibia but across the African continent. His leadership style reflected a genuine passion for the well-being of his people and a tireless dedication to fostering unity.

As we mourn the loss of this remarkable leader, let us remember and celebrate the indomitable spirit with which President Geingob served Namibia. His legacy will endure as an inspiration to current and future generations, reminding us of the importance of resilience, solidarity, and the pursuit of a just society.

In this time of grief, the International Trade Union Confederation - Africa (ITUC-Africa) stands in solidarity with the trade unions of Namibia through TUCNA and with the entire workforce and citizenry. May President Hage Geingob’s contributions be forever etched in the collective memory of a grateful nation. We pray that the immediate family of the deceased and the Namibian people be comforted, and they will find the strength to continue the nation-building efforts.
