The 16th meeting of the General Council of the ITUC-Africa was opened by its Chairman, Comrade Mody Guiro, on Monday, October 17, 2016 in Accra, Ghana.
For leaders and the General Secretariat, the annual meeting of the regional trade union body has the opportunity to present its affiliates and submit for approval the financial reports and reports on activities conducted during 2016 in order to achieve the objectives of its strategic plan.

During this two-day meeting, the action plan and budget for 2017 will also be presented.

Forty union leaders and representatives of the international CSI, those of sub-regional organizations (EATUC, SATUCC, OTAO), those of Global Federations (EI, PSI, BWI ...) and a representative of CFDT-France participated in works.

This meeting was preceded, in the morning, by a workshop on the study the status of trade unions in Africa which will be conducted in the coming months by the research institute of ITUC-Africa and the Executive Board meeting.

Note that the General Council is the highest body of the regional organization after the Congress and is responsible for managing its activities and implement the decisions and resolutions of Congress.
