AFRICAN REGIONAL ORGANISATION OF THE
INTERNATIONAL TRADE UNION CONFEDERATION Creating a better world for workers in Africa and beyond

ITUC-Africa, in partnership with the CFDT, organized at its headquarters in Lomé (Togo) a regional workshop from March 11 to 15 on strengthening unions managerial capacity for an Effective participation in the process of sustainable development.

This workshop aimed to inventory the management systems of trade unions and to deepen the knowledge and skills relating to the essential union action, capacity to mobilize, negotiate, communicate effectively, manage conflict and work as a team. This 3-year program in partnership with the CFDT aims at disseminating the acquired knowledge to national confederations.

The workshop was very interactive. Based on the background of the participants, the different sequences of training were addressed through case studies, group work or individual questions.

The sessions provided an opportunity to assess the situation in each country. it was also the occasion to present the assessment grid by country on union and socioeconomic realities. The work also involved establishing a methodological approach of the work plan and agree on the conditions for monitoring and accompanying coordination at the national level. An action plan has been drawn up by each participating country.

24 participants representing 12 Francophone African countries took part in this workshop.
