ITUC-Africa joins the ITUC and its affiliates around the world in expressing our solidarity with the people of Ukraine and call for an end to the unjust war unleashed by the State of Russia against Ukraine.
We reject and condemn the use of force in international relations and call on Russia to cease its military aggression and onslaught on Ukraine and its people.
We urge world leaders to make greater effort to achieve a dialogue-based settlement of the issues that led to the Russian invasion and to secure peace.
We commend the outpouring of support for the victims of the war and for the refugees from this unfortunate conflict.
At the same time we condemn the widely reported cases of racism and discriminatory treatment of Africans and other non-Europeans, including students, fleeing the war.
Strengthening global working-class solidarity is essential for addressing the challenges of peace and development that face the majority of the world’s people as they strive to recover from the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic, the excesses of a failed model of globalization, climate-change induced disasters, wars and internal conflicts.
Time is now to strengthen the demand for a new social contract based on global security and a shared prosperity and rejection of a return to nationalism and a Cold War of strategic competition between imperialist forces.
Time is ripe to reinvent effective multilateralism as the basis and framework for global security, peace, prosperity and sustainability.
