The ITUC-Africa Youth Committee met on Monday, October 15 in Lomé at its headquarters (Fopadesc).
The meeting was an opportunity for the members of the committee to present the broad outlines and priorities of their action plan at national and regional level. Nine young people from Ghana, Senegal, DRC, Kenya, Malawi, Zambia and Togo, comprising of seven regional committee members and two from the world committee participated in this meeting chaired by Comrade Mbaye Diaw (vice president) in the absence of the president.

Among items on the agenda for this meeting, the youth discussed the upcoming ITUC congress to be held next December in Copenhagen and also the ITUC-Africa congress for next year.

The recommendations that evolved from the meeting were presented to the ITUC-Africa General Council. The focus was on:
 Lobby and advocacy actions to enforce the quota of at least 15% of youth in African delegations to the ITUC Congress;

  • The organization of a youth forum to discuss and propose amendments to working documents related to youth issue for the upcoming ITUC-Africa Congress;
  • The establishment by the ITUC-Africa secretariat of technical and logistical means for carrying out reforestation activities at ITUC-Africa headquarters, which will be replicated in national organizations;
  • Involve more youth in organizing training and capacity building;
  • Involve the youth in the campaign for minimum wages
  • Lobbying and advocacy actions for the implementation of youth policy documents in all national organizations affiliated to ITUC-Africa

These recommendations were adopted by the General Council of ITUC-Africa
