After a first training cycle undertaken since 2010, following which national activities were implemented in 12 French-speaking African countries to strengthen the capacity of African trade union leaders, a regional workshop on democratic management took place from 21 to 25 May 2018 in Lomé, Center Fopadesc.

15 focal points and trade union leaders from Benin, Burkina-Faso, Chad, Mali, Niger, Guinea, Togo, Ivory Coast, Senegal and representatives of the CFDT took part in this workshop initiated by the African Regional Organization of International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC-Africa) with the support of the French Democratic Confederation of Labor (CFDT).

This workshop ensured coordination between the countries in order to follow up the training process initiated since 2010, to contextualize and institutionalize the process of inter-union work by country and to evaluate the work undertaken in inter-union by country.

It has also enabled the trade union organizations represented to strengthen their internal democracy through the participation of all structures in decision-making bodies with a focus on the participation of young people and women.

Note that this program is part of the priorities of the ITUC-Africa 2016-2019 strategic plan which consists in putting the "organization" at the heart of its actions, for a stronger and representative unionism.
